About Bruce

Bruce Buckingham spent his early career (1979-1985) as an aide to Congressman (now Senator) Bill Nelson (D-FL) in Washington, DC. He later moved back to his home in Florida where he worked for nearly 30 years at Kennedy Space Center as the official "Voice of NASA launch control." He was selected as the NASA News Chief and was the primary NASA spokesman at KSC. He oversaw all media operations for nearly 30 years of space shuttle launches and landings until his retirement in 2013.

In early 2015 Bruce competed his first novel, The Last Snowman in Paris. He first began work on it as a congressional aide in Washington, DC. (I was single and had time on my hands, he said.) But he put the project aside (for 30 years) when he married his bride Michele and moved back to Florida and began his career in the Public Affairs Office at NASA/Kennedy Space Center. Along the way, Bruce and Michele had two children, Scott and Kim. (My family and my 2-hour daily commute to work, left me with little time to write, he said.)

Since finishing his novel, he has also a written number of short stories -- The Dreamkeepers and Other Short Stories is now available. Another story, Diving Buddies, is also on line.

Most of his time nowadays, however, is spent working with the not-for-profit foundation he formed after leaving NASA called Risky Living Ministries. In fact, his desire to serve in this capacity is what prompted him to leave his NASA career early. (That plus the fact all the fun was taken away from the job when NASA cancelled the Shuttle program, he said.)

RLM is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of his father's (the late Jamie Buckingham) written and recorded messages and teachings. Bruce, along with the help of others, is in the lenghtly process of preserving his father's materials by digitizing them and loading them to a website. It can all be found at www.JamieBuckinghamMinistries.com.

Bruce enjoys travel and has done so extensively, but he also enjoys spending quiet times away in the cabin his grandfather, Walter Buckingham, built in the 1940s in the hills of Hendersonville, NC. (It was here my father did much of his best writing, he said.)

Bruce maintains his home base in Palm Bay, FL when he lives a happy and joyfilled active life with his wife Michele, also an accomplished writer and editor. (She's better than I'll ever be, he says often.)
